In a blog post explaining why so many professional players aren’t attending Nationals this year, pro Tyler Loong said the COVID-19 requirement is a major factor:
“Covid Vaccinations – To enter the facility, you must have proof of vaccination even if you are not competing, ie, friends, family, spectators and all players – This is the #1 reason without a doubt.”
Other reasons cited by Loong include the large number of tournaments, the high cost of lodging in Indian Wells, and the change in dates that took some players by surprise.
Loong is not participating at Nationals this year.
